Burahya County booked their place in the final of the fifth edition of the Tooro Kingdom MTN Amasaza Cup after holding Fort Portal City to a 1-1 draw on Sunday, securing a 3-2 aggregate victory in their semi-final tie.
The result at St Paul’s Major Seminary playground, as identified in one of the match reports, completed Burahya’s qualification following their 2-1 first-leg win and set up a final against Mwenge South County on Saturday, October 24, at Uganda Technical College-Kichwamba in Kabarole District.
Burahya will now have the opportunity to reclaim the title they won in 2024, while Mwenge South seek their second championship after lifting the trophy in 2023. The football champions will walk away with Shs15 million.
Tuwa strikes as Burahya hold their nerve
Burahya entered the return leg with a narrow advantage after winning the first meeting 2-1. They strengthened their position when Francis Tuwa scored in the first half to give his side the lead.
Fort Portal responded after the break, with Francis Ndigiya finding the equaliser in the 75th minute. However, the home side could not find the additional goal needed to overturn Burahya’s aggregate advantage.
The 1-1 draw was enough to send Burahya through with a 3-2 aggregate win, ending Fort Portal’s hopes of reaching another final.
The qualification marks the second time Burahya have reached the tournament’s final. They won the third edition in 2024 after defeating Fort Portal in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw.
Burahya have maintained a strong record in the competition. They finished third in 2023 after beating Mwenge North on penalties and claimed the title in 2024. In 2025, they again secured third place, defeating Mwenge South 1-0 in the classification match.
Mwenge South await in the final
Mwenge South secured their place in the final by eliminating Kitagwenda in the other semi-final. They won 1-0, with Joram Seruwagi scoring the decisive goal to secure their passage.
The Kyenjojo-based side will now face Burahya in a contest between two former champions. Mwenge South won the second edition in 2023, while Burahya claimed the following edition in 2024.
The final also offers Mwenge South an opportunity to avenge their 1-0 defeat to Burahya in the 2025 third-place playoff.
The Omukama of Tooro, Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, is expected to attend the October 24 final as chief guest.
Tournament resumes after suspension
Sunday’s semi-final marked the resumption of the Tooro Kingdom MTN Amasaza Cup after the tournament was suspended following the death of former Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV on August 27, 2026.
The fifth edition brings together nine counties: Fort Portal, Burahya, Mwenge North, Mwenge South, Ntoroko, Bunyangabu, Kyaka, Kibaale and Kitagwenda.
The teams competed through a group stage before progressing to the knockout rounds, with the semi-finals determining the two finalists.
Fort Portal had reached the finals in both 2024 and 2025 but finished as runners-up on each occasion. They lost to Burahya on penalties in 2024 after a 1-1 draw, before suffering a 2-0 defeat against Kyaka in 2025.
With Fort Portal now eliminated, Burahya will turn their attention to the final against Mwenge South, with Shs15 million and the fifth edition’s championship title at stake.
The two sides will meet at Uganda Technical College-Kichwamba on October 24, where Burahya will attempt to add another title to their record and Mwenge South will aim to reclaim the crown they last won in 2023.
