Uganda Cranes players will soon enjoy upgraded welfare and travel packages, including business-class flights, five-star lodging, and qualification bonuses of roughly Shs39 million per player. FUFA President Moses Magogo announced the changes following talks between the federation and the Government.
Foreign-based Cranes players will now fly business class on trips exceeding four hours, and the team will get a new bus along with chartered flights for tightly scheduled fixtures. FUFA has also secured better bonuses and allowances for the senior team, players from Uganda’s 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign will each receive a pro-rata bonus of USD10,000 (about Shs39 million). Magogo added that the team will stay in five-star hotels during camps at home and abroad wherever possible, as part of a broader push to strengthen the squad’s welfare and logistics ahead of major tournaments.
Separately, FUFA continues its search for Uganda-eligible players based overseas. Magogo said federation officials, government representatives, and the head coach have been visiting various countries to meet prospective players, those qualifying through descent, family ties, or birthplace, along with their parents and agents. He noted the process is ongoing and gradual, with new players expected to emerge across the September, October, November, and March windows and beyond, saying the year-long effort will soon start bearing fruit.
The Cranes are currently camped in Tunis ahead of their 2027 AFCON qualifier against Tunisia. Uganda has already secured a spot at the 2027 tournament as a co-host but will still play in the qualifiers per CAF rules. The team returns home to face Libya in Hoima on 29 September 2026 at 7pm , Uganda’s first-ever AFCON qualifier hosted outside Kampala.
