Police have arrested another suspect in connection with a series of murders and robberies in Ibanda and Kazo districts, as investigations into the violent attacks continue.
The latest suspect, Bogere Ayub, 28, was arrested on October 15, 2026, at Independence Park in Kiswahili Cell, Mbarara City, according to the Uganda Police Force.
Bogere is suspected of involvement in two fatal attacks and is allegedly associated with Tusiime Hickson, also known as Kabuto, who was arrested on October 12 as police intensified investigations into the incidents.
The arrests follow deadly attacks reported in August that left three people dead across the two districts, according to details released by police.
Two killed in Ibanda family attack
In Ibanda District, four family members were attacked at their home in Rwenshabya IV Village, Keihangara Sub-county, on the night of August 28, 2026.
The attack claimed the lives of Kenguto Margaret, 76, and Kwesiga Anthony, 13, who succumbed to their injuries.
Police had earlier arrested two suspects, Sebulime Charles and Mujunansi Deuse, who were subsequently taken to court in connection with the incident.
Investigators are continuing to pursue additional leads to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify all those who may have participated in the crime.
Kazo woman strangled, property stolen
In neighbouring Kazo District, Asimwe Rashida was strangled to death on August 27, 2026, in Mpuga Cell, Buremba Sub-county.
Police suspect that Bogere and other individuals were involved in the killing and the alleged theft of the victim’s money and other belongings.
The arrest of Bogere is expected to form part of the continuing investigations into the Kazo murder, although the allegations against him have not yet been established in court.
Two more arrested over suspected criminal links
Police have also arrested Frank Mugisha, 39, alias Muhima, and Asasira Apophia, 38, for questioning over allegations of facilitating criminal activity and receiving suspected stolen property.
Their alleged roles remain under investigation, and police have not announced any final findings regarding their involvement.
The arrests come after security agencies reinforced deployments and conducted community-security engagements in the affected districts in response to the reported murders and robberies.
Police say investigations are ongoing and have assured the public that anyone found responsible will be brought before the courts.
Residents with information that could help investigators establish the circumstances of the killings or identify other suspects have been urged to report to the nearest police station.
The latest developments mark another step in the investigations into the fatal attacks, with detectives continuing to establish the alleged connections between the suspects and the crimes reported in Ibanda and Kazo.
All suspects remain entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty by a competent court.
