A five-year-old boy from Buvulunguti East village, in Bukamba sub-county, Kaliro district on Wednesday accidentally caused the death of his three-year-old brother.

It is reported that the two were playing in the garden on when the five-year-old boy got hold of the hoe and accidentally hit his young brother on the head.

When he noticed that the brother had fallen on the ground, he ran and hid in the house.

However, when their grandfather, Nathan Gampwoile, returned home he asked for the whereabouts of the three-year-old boy.  They searched for the victim and they found him unconscious in the garden. However, he died on his way to the health facility.

Gampwoile said that what happened was an accident. He, however, said that they would conduct ritual cleansing on the offender, so as to deliver him from the curse of causing death to his brother.

“We have already lost the young child at the hand of his brother and in circumstances where such crimes are committed by toddlers, our culture demands ritual cleansing sessions of the offenders before the burial of the deceased, as a means of freeing them from the burden of guilty and future indulgences in related forms of criminality, throughout the course of their lives,” Gampwoile said.

The LCI Chairperson of Buvulunguti East village, Christopher Paasi said that many parents in the area are fond of abandoning their children at the hands of their aging grandparents who are too weak to look after the children.

The Busoga North Police Spokesperson, Michael Kasadha, challenged parents and caregivers to always take care of their children since any form of negligence can lead to death.
