Shock has gripped residents of Nansana West 1A in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, after a late-night house fire left three people dead and six others injured.
The fire broke out in the early hours of Monday, September 28, 2026, with preliminary police investigations pointing to suspected arson.
According to Uganda Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, the deceased have been identified as Bulali Isabirye, Annet Namulondo and Violet Nanyombi.
Police said the victims died in the blaze, while six other occupants survived with injuries.
Police said preliminary information indicates that one of the victims may have deliberately started the fire. Investigators are also examining reports that some occupants were forced out of the house shortly before the fire broke out.
“There was violence involved,” Rusoke said, adding that investigators recovered written material at the scene that points to the possibility that the fire was deliberately started.
The incident occurred at a residence in Nansana West One A, sending residents into shock as emergency responders moved in to contain the blaze and establish what had happened.
The bodies have reportedly been badly affected by the fire, and police said identification and other forensic procedures are ongoing.
The circumstances surrounding the deaths, including the exact events immediately before the fire, remain under investigation.
Police are treating the case as suspected arson and have launched further investigations to establish the motive and identify any person responsible.
The incident has renewed concern among residents over the safety of occupants in crowded rental premises, although police have not yet released a definitive account of the motive behind the suspected arson.
