NO GUNS ARE MISSING AT OUR CLASSIFIED STORES Today August 8. 2018. New Vision had their screaming lead story “DEEPER TROUBLE 4,000 NEW GUNS MISSING IN POLICE”. The story states that CMI and ISO are investigating our classified stores and that they have found 4 000 new guns missing This story is a hoax and should be treated with the contempt it deserves To put the record clear, we are not aware of any guns missing from our classified stores neither are we aware of any investigation by CMI and ISO on the same There is no investigations what so ever in as far as the procurement of one of our aircraft is concerned
However I Hs true that the Inspector General of Police. J M Okoth Ochola sanctioned a gun audit whose findings are yet to be submitted discussed and shared with the parties that must share them
These organs quoted in the lead story of a National news paper including the police have Public Relations Officers that should have been contacted for appropriate information which was not done Unfortunately. the writer simply chooses to quote anonymous sources for reasons that are known to him alone We consider this biased and irresponsible reporting It can endanger national security when writers play around with matters of national security in a manner that does not show concern and consciousness
We strongly advise that New Vision retracts the story corrects the impression created and seek for clear positions from the nght and credible sources instead of engaging in unsubstantiated. unfair and biased reporting of this nature which has grave security implications
Subsequently. media houses know that we are always available to serve them clarify issues: provide facts and figures wherever it Is required And we have always done this ,
