The Luwunga Village LC1 Chairman, Muwonge Muhammed, and his alleged accomplice, Ssozi Abdalla, have been remanded to prison over allegations of land grabbing, forgery, destruction of property and other offences in Mukono District.
The two were arraigned before the Mukono Magistrates Court by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, working together with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Court remanded the accused until August 26, 2026, as investigations into the allegations continue.
According to the prosecution, between October and November 2025, Ssozi and Muhammed allegedly forcibly entered land comprised in Block 167, Plot 81, Kyaggwe, located in Luwunga Village, Nama Sub-county, Mukono District.
The disputed property measures approximately 311 acres and is registered in the name of Kiwanuka Stella, the administrator of the estate of the late Kiwanuka Joseph Musanze.
Investigators allege that Ssozi falsely presented himself as the owner of the land and, together with Muhammed, who was serving as the area LC1 chairman, allegedly forged sale agreements which were subsequently issued to some of the victims.
The alleged scheme has left several occupants facing losses after property and developments on the disputed land were reportedly destroyed.
The accused are alleged to have stolen metallic water tanks and water pumping machines belonging to occupants while also causing extensive damage to houses on the land.
Prosecution further alleges that crops were uprooted and destroyed, including maize, cassava, sweet potatoes, sugar cane, tomatoes, banana plantations and eucalyptus trees.
The total value of the destroyed crops and property has been estimated at approximately Shs1 billion.
The case adds to a growing list of land-related prosecutions in Mukono, with the Anti-Corruption Unit previously charging and securing the remand of alleged notorious land grabbers Kayongo Bonniface and Kiseka Hamuza over similar allegations.
The latest arrests underscore the government’s intensified crackdown on fraudulent land transactions, illegal occupation and the destruction of property belonging to legitimate landowners and occupants.
The allegations against Muwonge and Ssozi remain subject to determination by the courts, and they are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
