A fatal road accident along the busy Kayunga–Jinja Road has claimed one life and left three others injured after a Toyota Hilux overturned several times following a collision with a motorcycle at Suuka in Kayunga District.
According to police, the crash happened on the night of May 17, 2026 at around 9:00pm near the Lake Oil Petrol Station in Suuka.
The accident involved a Toyota Hilux registration number UG 0101 151 and an unidentified motorcycle rider who was reportedly joining the main road at the time of the collision.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the Hilux driver was travelling from Kayunga towards Jinja when the vehicle rammed into the motorcycle. The impact reportedly caused the driver to lose control, sending the vehicle overturning several times along the road.
Three passengers aboard the Hilux sustained injuries during the violent crash, with one of them identified as Mr. Kalangwa Kalisa Moses suffering critical wounds.
The injured victims were rushed to Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital for emergency treatment. However, due to the severity of his condition, Mr. Kalangwa was later referred to Nakasero Hospital in Kampala where he was pronounced dead.
Police said investigations into the exact cause of the accident are still ongoing, including efforts to identify the motorcyclist involved in the crash.
The latest incident adds to the growing number of deadly road crashes reported on Ugandan highways, particularly involving motorcycles joining major roads without proper clearance. Authorities have repeatedly warned motorists and boda boda riders to exercise caution, especially during nighttime travel when visibility is poor.
Traffic police are expected to release further details once investigations are completed.
