Museveni Lectures Burundians On Ideology

1 Mins read

President Yoweri Museveni has said that most political problems that African countries face originate from ideological bankruptcy.

He, therefore, emphasized the need for leaders to focus on ideology that is interest-based rather than on identity, if they are to solve the challenges facing the continent.

“Pseudo ideology cannot take us anywhere because it is talking about identity rather than interest. We cannot economically prosper because of tribe,” he said.

The President was addressing Senior Command and Staff College students of the Burundi National Defence Forces, who called on him last evening, at State House, Entebbe.

The Burundi military students are currently on a study tour in Uganda that started on 26th this month and is slated to end on 1st April 2018.

President Museveni, who gave a brief political background of Uganda to the visiting Burundi Army students, informed them that the country had become a failed state because of ideology.

He said that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) was able to build a National Army and the economy at large, basing on the Principles of Patriotism, Pan-Africanism and Socio-Economic transformation, among others.

Mr. Museveni emphasized that societies must embrace social change through change agents like education, switching from manual to intellectual labour as well as employing technological changes, among strategies.

The visiting Burundi Armed Forces’ Officers, through their College Commandant, Col. Justus Ciiza, thanked President Museveni and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, for the warm welcome. They pledged to continue and cement further the partnership between the two Armed Forces.
