Uganda’s National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) Chief Executive Officer, Denis Mudene, has been shortlisted for a prestigious continental award recognising excellence in responsible gambling across Africa.
Mudene’s nomination comes under the Responsible Gambling category at the 2026 iGaming AFRIKA Summit Awards, a platform that celebrates innovation, regulation, and industry leadership across the continent.
According to the awards shortlist, Mudene joins a select group of African regulators and experts acknowledged for advancing player protection, ethical gaming practices, and sustainable industry growth.
Other nominees in the category include industry leaders and advocates from Nigeria, South Africa, Botswana, and Kenya, reflecting a growing continental push toward safer and more accountable gaming environments.
The nomination places Uganda at the centre of ongoing efforts to strengthen gambling regulation in Africa, particularly as the sector experiences rapid growth driven by digital and mobile platforms.
Mudene has in recent engagements emphasised the need for evidence-based regulation, arguing that strong policies must balance industry expansion with consumer protection.
His leadership at the NLGRB has focused on promoting responsible gaming frameworks, enhancing oversight, and ensuring that operators adhere to standards that safeguard vulnerable users.
The iGaming AFRIKA Summit Awards 2026 will culminate in a grand ceremony scheduled for May in Nairobi, Kenya, where winners across multiple categories will be announced following a voting and judging process involving both industry stakeholders and experts.
Mudene’s nomination is widely seen as a recognition of Uganda’s growing influence in shaping responsible gaming policies and regulatory standards within the African gaming ecosystem.
