President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has held bilateral talks with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at State House Entebbe, with the two leaders agreeing to deepen cooperation in trade, industrialisation, renewable energy, fish farming and water resource management.

According to President Museveni, the meeting focused on strengthening ties between Uganda and Egypt in key sectors viewed as critical to socio-economic transformation and regional integration.

“I had a pleasant meeting with my brother, H.E. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of Egypt, at State House Entebbe.

We discussed strengthening Uganda-Egypt relations in the areas of trade, industrialisation, renewable energy, fish farming and water resource management,” Museveni said in a statement shared on his official X account.

The Ugandan leader emphasized the need for increased investment in large-scale commercial fish farming, arguing that it would help protect wetlands while simultaneously creating employment opportunities and increasing household incomes.

Museveni noted that promoting fish farming would support government efforts aimed at transitioning millions of Ugandans from subsistence agriculture into the money economy through commercial production.

Uganda has in recent years intensified campaigns against wetland degradation, with authorities warning that encroachment on fragile ecosystems threatens water sources, agriculture and climate resilience.

The government has increasingly promoted aquaculture as an alternative livelihood strategy capable of boosting exports and food security while conserving natural resources.

The discussions also touched on electricity generation and manufacturing, sectors both leaders reportedly described as essential drivers of economic growth and industrial transformation across Africa.

Museveni has consistently argued that access to affordable electricity remains central to attracting industries, adding value to agricultural products and creating sustainable employment opportunities for Africa’s rapidly growing population.

The meeting further explored regional peace and security issues, with the two presidents emphasizing dialogue, diplomacy and African-led solutions to conflicts affecting the continent.

The talks come at a time when both Uganda and Egypt are seeking to strengthen political and economic partnerships across Africa amid growing geopolitical and economic challenges.

Egypt has in recent years expanded its diplomatic and economic engagement with East African countries, particularly in areas related to infrastructure, energy and water cooperation. Uganda and Egypt have also maintained longstanding cooperation on Nile Basin issues, security matters and trade.

President El-Sisi arrived in Uganda earlier this week for an official visit aimed at reinforcing bilateral relations between the two countries. During his visit, he was received at Entebbe International Airport by Rt. Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda.

Analysts say the latest engagements between Kampala and Cairo reflect growing efforts by African leaders to build stronger continental partnerships focused on industrialisation, food production, energy access and regional stability.

The meeting at State House Entebbe also underscored Uganda’s continued push to attract strategic partnerships capable of supporting its industrial development agenda and long-term economic transformation plans.
