Security forces have raided Ravens Plaza and Life Arcade in an intelligence-led operation targeting suspected dealers and individuals accused of promoting and facilitating the theft of motor vehicle spare parts in Kampala.
The operation, conducted by officers from Jinja Road Police Station, resulted in the arrest of several suspects believed to be connected to networks involved in the theft and illegal trade of vehicle spare parts.
The raid was led by Jinja Road Division Police Commander SP Sulait Kataka and Officer in Charge of Operations ASP Brian Rugaju.
The operation involved a multi-agency security team comprising the Field Force Unit (FFU), military personnel, Criminal Investigations (CI) officers and other security operatives.
Security agencies reportedly relied on intelligence gathered on individuals suspected of facilitating the theft and distribution of stolen motor vehicle components before moving in on the two commercial premises.
Ravens Plaza and Life Arcade are among the premises targeted in the latest security crackdown as authorities intensify efforts to disrupt suspected criminal networks operating within Kampala’s motor vehicle spare parts trade.
The operation forms part of broader efforts by security agencies to combat the theft of motor vehicle parts and dismantle networks suspected of providing markets for stolen components.
Vehicle spare parts theft has remained a concern for motorists, with criminal networks suspected of stealing components and channeling them into commercial markets.
The latest arrests are expected to aid investigations into the suspected networks, although police have not yet disclosed the identities of those arrested, the number of suspects detained or the specific items recovered during the operation.
Authorities have also not provided details of the next course of action against the suspects as investigations continue.
The intelligence-led raid signals an intensified security focus on commercial outlets suspected of facilitating the illegal trade in stolen motor vehicle parts.
