Speaker of Parliament Anita Among’s campaign for the NRM’s 2nd Vice Chairperson Female position is gaining significant traction, following a key endorsement from the NRM leadership in the Bukedi Sub-region.
During a rally in Gogonyo County, Palisa District, the NRM leaders expressed their full support for Among, praising her leadership in the 11th Parliament. The endorsement is a major boost as the party prepares for the upcoming Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections.
Prior to the rally, Among held a closed meeting with Bukedi’s NRM leadership, where they formally endorsed her candidacy. Leaders described her leadership style as one that promotes maturity and unity qualities they believe are critical for strengthening the party ahead of the 2026 general elections.
“The Speaker has shown remarkable leadership in Parliament and has the ability to unite the party,” said one leader.
Alongside Among’s endorsement, the leaders threw their weight behind President Museveni for NRM Chairmanship, Captain Mike Mukula for Vice Chairperson Eastern, and Sanjay Tana for Chairperson of the NRM Entrepreneurs League.
Among welcomed the support but reiterated that her candidacy is not yet official. She expressed her belief that the NRM needs leaders who will not only maintain unity but also mobilize support as the party approaches the 2026 polls.
“I am ready to serve and unite the party. We need to ensure cohesion as we move toward the elections,” Among said.
The endorsement ceremony also marked a significant political development with the defection of FDC supporters to the NRM, an event that was hailed by Captain Mike Mukula as a win for the ruling party.
