NRM Candidates Risk Disqualification Incase Of Violence

1 Mins read

As the clock ticks to the highly billed NRM Primaries on September 4th, the NRM Electoral Commission Chairman, Dr. Tanga Odoi, said he will nullify elections in violent scenarios.

The NRM electorate has been marred with allegations of voter bribery, intimidation, and missing names in the NRM voter registrar.

Odoi insisted that the party will not hesitate to take punitive action against any of their candidates that will be involved in acts of violence before, during and after the coming party elections.

“We are not going to allow people to vote who are not in the register. You must be a member of NRM and in the register that is when you will be allowed to vote. I have been hearing in some villages that people not in the registers are allowed to vote. No,” he said.

“There  will be no adding or subtracting names in the register. Those who are doing it are wasting time. I hear they are deleting the names of the dead. Leave their names there; they won’t walk out of the grave and vote,” he added.

Odoi also condemned sectarian tendencies in the party citing rising religious sentiments in Kazo district, one of the places where the NRM is looking at final arrangements for party primary elections on Friday.

“There is no tribal politics allowed in NRM, it is a mass party if you are going to be the member of parliament for an ethnic group, then you better remain in the village,” he said.

Odoi  blasted candidates who alleged that he had been bribed to ensure their success in the upcoming party primaries.

“Those who alleged to have bribed me at hopeless. I want to call upon candidates in Kazo keep me of your nonsense. I have means of survival,” he noted.

“The NRM Primaries are set for September 4th, 2020. The commission wants to warn all candidates who are engaging in electoral violence that they risk being disqualified,” Odoi said.

He noted that such occurrences will force a halt on the entire process in the affected district.
