Ministry of Water to Provide Hand-Washing Material in Urban Areas

The Ministry of Water and Environment has partnered with World Vision, IRC and Unilever Uganda to provide hand washing material in urban areas.

 According to the commissioner Ministry of Water and Environment, Eng. Joseph Eyatu Oriano, this being done to enable people to have universal access to water, sanitation and hygiene facilities. 

He noted that in spite of the emergence of COVID-19 , the countries hand washing coverage is still very low with the rural areas standing at 36% and 40% in urban

“In response to COVID-9 ,the National hand washing initiative has received support from water supply and sanitation collaborated council through World Vision inform of information, education materials, hand-washing facilities as well as soap to be distributed to vulnerable people,” he said while addressing the media on Tuesday in Kampala. 

He also noted that they are targeting traffic officers who are in the high risk of contracting the pandemic.  

Joanita Mukasa, the managing director Unilever Uganda said that most people have embraced hand washing which a the right way to move. 

“People have embraced a lot of hygiene and consumption habit.We want to reach to all the people to ensure that they are safe,”she said.
