In the wake of the 15% Tuition increment strikes by Makerere Students that have been filling the dailiies in the last couple of weeks, some journalists faced the wrath of the police and army as they carried out their sole duty of reporting the news.
Last week, the Uganda Journalists Associstion came out to condemn the police brutality on its members citing that some of them had even been put behind bars.
In the same tone, the Journalist’s body called on to all members to boycot any Police activities and avoid coverage of the same.
Earlier today, a section of members of the Uganda Journalists Association marched and camped at the Central Police Station (CPS) to demand the release of Mr.Bashir Kazibwe, their president, among several journalists who were arrested.
The other victims of police brutality include; Daily Monitor’s Alex Esagala, Godfrey Tumwesigye(NTV) , Chris Ssemakula(BBS TV) and Lawrence Kitatta from Bukedde newspaper.
Police officers were seen running for their dear lives as journalists stormed the police station to fight for their rights.
