The ministry of health has called on the population to disregard deliberately orchestrated information circulated on social media targeted at failing the mass vaccination scheduled to begin today 16th for children aged 15 years and below.
Addressing the masses in Mayuge District during the vaccination of children, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng refuted the allegations that the Measles-Rubella vaccine can cause autism to the children.
She assured the people that the vaccines are well tested and proved by the World Health Organisation.
“The vaccines are effective, they are approved by the World Health Organisation and we don’t expect any child to have any challenges or side effects,” she said.
The vaccination of pupils in Mayuge district on Tuesday marked the launch of the mass exercise against Measles and Rubella beginning today for all children age 15 and below.
Dr Aceng strongly advised the public to take the exercise seriously and take their children for immunisation.
“I am appealing to you that even before RDCs reach you with the law bring your children for vaccination. We love your children that’s is why we are providing the vaccines free of charge,” she said.
She noted that the false information spread online about the vaccination alleging that it will cause autism to children is not true.
“Rubella is German measles, it appears just like measles and when you get Rubella you will get a child who is abnormal, your child will become deaf, your child will be blind,” she said.
The undertaking is as a result of the recent outbreak of Measles and Rubella in over 60 districts in the country.
A total of 18 million children in different schools are expected to be vaccinated during this exercises which is scheduled to last for five days from today 16th to 20th.
