Uganda and India have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations, with a focus on strategic cooperation and upcoming international engagements.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Odongo Jeje Abubaker, on Tuesday held talks with Upender Singh Rawat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala. The meeting centered on enhancing collaboration between the two countries and aligning positions ahead of key global summits.
Discussions focused on Uganda’s participation in the forthcoming BRICS Summit and the 4th India-Africa Forum Summit IV, both expected to take place in New Delhi.
Odongo confirmed Uganda’s attendance, highlighting the significance of these platforms in advancing both national and continental development priorities.
“The fora present an important opportunity for Uganda and Africa to engage global partners on issues of economic growth, trade, and sustainable development,” the minister noted.
Beyond multilateral cooperation, the two leaders explored opportunities to expand bilateral engagement in key sectors, including education, cultural exchange, tourism development, and information and communications technology (ICT).
These areas were identified as critical to fostering people-to-people ties and driving innovation-led growth.
Odongo also commended Rawat for his role in strengthening practical cooperation between Kampala and New Delhi, noting visible progress in joint initiatives.
The meeting concluded with both sides reiterating their commitment to deepening Uganda-India relations and pursuing mutually beneficial partnerships across a broad range of sectors.
