The meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala, focused on expanding cooperation across strategic sectors, including oil and gas, energy, mining, agriculture, petrochemicals, and research and development.

According to a statement from the ministry, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening South-South cooperation and maintaining sustained diplomatic and technical engagement. They also agreed to convene a Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) in the near future to formalize and scale up areas of collaboration.

Ambassador Fernandez underscored Venezuela’s readiness to share technical expertise, particularly in upstream oil production, refining, and petrochemical development—areas seen as critical to Uganda’s growing energy ambitions.

The discussions build on a series of engagements between the two countries in recent years, reflecting a steady push to enhance political and economic relations. Previous meetings have similarly emphasized mutual cooperation and the establishment of structured frameworks such as the JPC to guide bilateral initiatives.

Both parties welcomed the existing cordial relations and expressed optimism about future high-level engagements, including interactions expected during Uganda’s upcoming swearing-in ceremony in May 2026.

The meeting signals continued efforts by Kampala to diversify its international partnerships, particularly within the Global South, as it seeks to leverage shared expertise and investment opportunities to drive national development.
