Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday commissioned the Isimba Hydro-power dam in Kayunga district.

At the commissioning ceremony accompanied by a heavy downpour, Museveni thanked the Chinese government for the financial assistance it rendered and promised to revive the railway line.

“I want to thank the government of China for the soft loan from Exim Bank. They have assisted us at Karuma Dam, Entebbe Express Highway and also will help us with the railway. The government of China is a reliable partner for Uganda and Africa,” Museveni said.

He added, “God has blessed us with rain. Those with sins should repent so that we don’t get a dry spell.”

The Project cost 567.7 USD Million, the government of Uganda met 15% of the cost and 85% of the cost was a loan from Exim Bank, China.

The 183MW Isimba Hydro Power Project (HPP) is located 4km downstream of Simba Falls on the River Nile, approximately 50km downstream of the Source of the Nile. The project site is about 21km from Kayunga Town as the nearest town and about 65km from Jinja Town.
