President Yoweri Museveni and his wife Hon. Janet Museveni today joined Christians at Kasaka Cathedral, Central Buganda Diocese to celebrate New Year 2019.
He congratulated the people of Gomba District in particular and all Ugandans in general on completing the year 2018 with the call to emulate Jesus Christ by working hard to fight household poverty.
“Jesus worked, spread the Gospel, fed the hungry and healed the sick. So when you see a Christian who is not emulating these tenets, you know he/she is not a true one,” he said. He also advised Christians to lead by example for others to copy from them.
“As a Christian you have to be an example, if you are poor what will people copy from you? Your poverty?” he asked.
Mr. Museveni commended the Bishop of Central Buganda Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Michael Lubowa for spearheading the campaign against poverty in his area.
He used the occasion to warn the youth, especially those who spend their money on alcohol and marijuana, instead of directing their resources into creating wealth.

He, therefore, advised them to spend their youthful lives in profitable ventures that will later transform their communities.
The President gave cash contribution of Shs.280 million being a pledge towards the construction of the Bishop’s house.
He also pledged 3 tractors and a maize milling machine to help the Diocese in modern farming to increase household income.
Bishop Michael Lubowa, who led the prayers, thanked God for all the blessings and peace in the country.
He thanked President for coming to fellowship with the Christians in the Diocese. He asked Ugandans to put their trust in God adding that they can do nothing without Him.
