MTN Uganda’s philanthropic arm, the MTN Foundation, in partnership with Maendeleo Foundation, is expanding its mobile digital training initiative to reach 2,000 participants across 10 communities in the 2025/26 programme, underscoring the company’s strategic commitment to closing Uganda’s digital divide.

The MTN Internet Bus, a computer-equipped mobile classroom, will visit six districts in March and April, hosting 10-day training camps in Kampala, Kiryandongo, Rwampara, Bushenyi, Adjumani and Amuru. Since 2022, the Foundation has trained more than 5,933 people in 44 communities.

The curriculum is designed to equip learners with practical digital skills, including computer literacy, internet navigation, email communication, cloud collaboration tools, spreadsheets, graphic design and e-learning platforms.

Sessions also emphasise online safety and security, reflecting Uganda’s accelerating digitisation of government services, banking and education, among others.

“MTN Uganda believes that everyone deserves the benefits of a modern, connected life,” said Bryan Mbasa, the MTN Foundation senior manager. “It is on this basis that, through the MTN Internet Bus, we are bringing digital skills directly to communities, empowering young people and women to participate in the digital economy fully. This initiative reflects our broader ambition to drive inclusive growth and ensure no one is left behind as Uganda embraces digital transformation.”

Local partners hosting the camps include Kabalagala One-Stop Youth Centre in Kampala, Kanyonyore Vocational School in Rwampara, St. Mary’s Technical Institute in Kyamuhunga, Bushenyi and the Global Refugee Initiative in Kiryandongo.

Participants complete their training in digital modules for business within nine days and receive their certificates on the 10th day. Thereafter, graduates are also enrolled onto the MTN Skills Academy to further strengthen their skills through continuous and advanced digital education.

The MTN Foundation, established in 2007, manages the company’s corporate social investment portfolio, increasingly prioritising digital inclusion as a driver of long-term economic participation.
