Makerere University students have been invited to apply for the second cohort of the For Youth, By Youth (FYBY) Movement, a global youth-led initiative under the Talloires Network of Engaged Universities, whose secretariat is based at Tufts University, USA.
The FYBY Movement brings together young leaders from partner universities across six continents to co-create solutions to pressing social, economic, and environmental challenges in their communities and institutions.

Makerere University, a long-standing member of the Talloires Network, has consistently stood out for its active student participation. In November last year, six Makerere students from the first FYBY cohort represented the university at the Network’s Global Conference in Türkiye, where they delivered impactful presentations and showcased youth-led innovation rooted in community engagement.
Building on this strong track record, the Talloires Network has now opened applications for the second FYBY cohort, offering 75 slots to young leaders globally.
According to the call, eligible applicants must be currently enrolled at one of the Talloires Network partner universities, including Makerere University. The programme particularly encourages applications from African youth, women, forcibly displaced youth, persons with disabilities, Indigenous youth, and gender non-conforming youth.
Successful applicants will benefit from a USD 2,500 scholarship to support community action research, alongside mentorship, wellness coaching, and training in storytelling, responsible artificial intelligence, and youth-led participatory action research. Participants will also gain access to international conferences and a growing global network of young change-makers across more than 20 countries.

The FYBY Movement is structured as a three-year journey, guiding participants from individual leadership development to community transformation, and eventually to institutional change. The programme requires a flexible commitment of 8–10 hours per week and does not charge any application fees.
Applications are open until 20 February 2026.

University officials and programme alumni have urged students to seize this opportunity, noting that FYBY provides a rare platform for Ugandan youth to shape global conversations while driving tangible impact at home.
