Godfrey Aine Kaguta, popularly known as Sodo, has been officially nominated as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for Mawogola North Constituency ahead of the 2026 parliamentary elections.
Ms. Annet Nakimuli, was also nominated as the NRM flag bearer for the Sembabule District Woman Member of Parliament seat. Nakimuli pledged to champion women’s empowerment, healthcare, and education initiatives across the district.
The nomination exercise, conducted at the Electoral Commission offices in Sembabule District, attracted large crowds of supporters who hailed Sodo’s candidacy as a sign of renewed hope and unity for the area.
Sodo, who is the younger brother of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, pledged to focus his campaign on economic empowerment, unity, and service delivery.
“Bannamawogola deserves a future where we are globally competitive,” he said. “We have the land, the talent, and the will to transform our communities. My goal is to bring everyone together and ensure that every family benefits from development.”
His nomination follows the withdrawal of incumbent MP Hon. Shartsi Musherure Kutesa, paving the way for new leadership within the NRM ranks in Sembabule District.
Mawogola North, a largely rural constituency located in Uganda’s Ankole cattle corridor, is known for its cattle keeping and crop farming. Despite its vast potential, the area continues to face challenges such as poor road infrastructure, limited access to markets, and youth unemployment, issues Sodo has promised to address through inclusive programs and partnerships.
Sodo, who previously contested in the 2020 NRM primaries, is widely regarded as a grassroots mobilizer with strong ties to local communities. His campaign has gained traction for its emphasis on agriculture, education, and youth empowerment, aligning with the government’s broader development agenda.
As the 2026 general elections draw nearer, Sodo Kaguta’s nomination sets the stage for a competitive race in Mawogola North, one many residents believe could redefine the constituency’s political and development trajectory.
