Uganda Police has so far released names of 10 bodies they have so far recovered from Lake Victoria after a boat capsized on August 2nd, 2023.
The number of people on board is allegedly to be 34 and the incident happened at 5 am.
20 people were confirmed dead, and nine (9) were rescued.
The boat was carrying bags of charcoal, fresh foods, silverfish among others.
The cause of the accident is attributed to overloading and bad weather.
Rescue efforts have been underway with teams from Police Marines, UPDF Fisheries Protection Unit and local community on the waters trying to locate the missing people.
Unfortunately, the rescue efforts are facing challenges due to the rough conditions of the lake and heavy rainfall.
The combined efforts of the Police Marines, UPDF Marines, and local residents persist in their mission to locate and recover all missing persons.
Here is the List of the 10 recovered bodies
1. Nankya Winnie aged 29 years.
2. Rugose Zam Mutesi Angel aged 35 years.
3. Nabisele Galdyce aged 40 years.
4. Namulondo Proscovia aged 44 years.
5. Najuma Edith aged 30 years.
6. Nsabimana Innocent aged 35 years.
7. Wabwire Dickson aged 30 years
8. Unidentified female adult.
9. Okumu Derek aged 23 years.
10. Karegyeya Francis aged 28 years.
Rescue teams continue their search for victims of the boat accident on Lake Victoria that occurred on August 2nd, 2023.
As of now, only five bodies, all of them female adults, have been recovered out of the 20 individuals who were reported missing.
The recovered bodies have been transported to City Mortuary Mulago for post-mortem examinations.
