Minister Amongi Meets German Delegation, Calls For Stronger Cooperation

In a significant development for international relations, Hon. Amongi Betty Ongom, the Minister of Gender, Labour, and Social Development has today met with a distinguished delegation from the German State of Saxony, during which they discussed a range of critical issues and explored avenues for stronger collaboration and cooperation.

Hon. Oliver Schenk, the State Minister of Saxony led the German delegation for the meeting that was held at the Ministry of Gender headquarters in Kampala. It emerged that both nations look forward to leveraging their cultural and social resources to forge stronger bonds and mutual understanding.

The discussions encompassed various topics of importance, including the safety and hosting of refugees, programs catering to Persons with Disabilities, minority rights, and cultural development.

Hon. Amongi Betty provided valuable insights into Uganda’s successful endeavors in creating a safe and supportive environment for displaced individuals.

The Saxony delegation expressed keen interest in learning from Uganda’s best practices and implementing similar measures to enhance the well-being of refugees in their region.

Later this year, Minister Amongi will lead a delegation from Uganda to the International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists (IAPMA) International Congress 2023, scheduled to take place in Dresden, Germany. She will also be the Guest of Honour at the opening of the Congress.

The congress serves as an exceptional opportunity to foster cooperation in the fields of culture, cultural heritage, and related information policies. It aims to promote initiatives for direct collaboration between museums in Germany and art groups in Uganda, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and artistic endeavors.

Attending the meeting alongside Hon. Oliver Schenk was Hon. Modscihedler Martin, the Member of Parliament for Saxony.

The Ugandan side also had H.E Stephen Mubiru, the Ugandan Ambassador to Germany, Amb. Danny Ssozi, his deputy, and Dr. Aggrey David Kibenge, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, among others.
