Wilson Masalu Musene, a retired High Court judge, has passed away.
After reaching the age of 65, Justice Musene stepped down from the bench in 2021. However, three months before his scheduled retirement date, Principal Judge Dr. Flavian Zeija ordered him to take a leave of absence.
This controversy overshadowed his retirement. The constitution stipulates that the judge has three months to complete any outstanding chamber work.
He had already received a sanction from the US Treasury Department for their suspected involvement in activities that targeted young children in a dubious adoption scheme.
The Department made notice of his involvement in a scheme that involved kidnapping young Ugandan children from their families and placing them in an unreliable adoption network.
However, Justice Musene refuted the charges and said he was willing to be examined.
Justice Musene passed away on Sunday night in Mbale Hospital, according to Sheila Wamboga, the principal communications officer for the judiciary. He was 67.
Justice Musene, a retired judge, is the second member of the judicial family to pass away this year following Justice Kenneth Kakuru, a current judge on the Constitutional Court.
