Five people were killed this morning in an accident at Kibukuta Swamp along the Kampala-Masaka highway.

The accident involved a Toyota Hiace minibus registration number UBM 489B and a Mercedes Benz registration number UAM 445B, according to a statement issued by Faridah Nampiima, the Traffic and Road Safety Public Relations Officer in Uganda Police Force.

She explains that the accident occurred around 7 am on boxing day when the Mercedes Benz that was heading to Masaka in the same direction as the minibus tried to overtake at a terrible speed and lost control and knocked the Hiace off the road.

Both vehicles overturned killing five people and injuring five others. She says the deceased whose identities haven’t been established include three female and 2 male adults who were traveling in the Toyota Hiace while the other five victims from the Benz were rushed to Nkozi Hospital.

“The suspected cause of the accident is speeding by both vehicles,” she said. Adding that,” We wish to remind all road users to be vigilant and observe maximum road discipline.”
