A UNEB scout has been evacuated from Kakumiro district to Mubende hospital after presenting with Ebola-like symptoms.

The scout had been deployed at Kings Way Primary school in Igayaza town council to monitor the Primary Leaving Examinations-PLE, which started Tuesday morning.

The scout, whose particulars have been concealed reportedly developed severe sickness on Tuesday morning.

He complained of severe headache, general body pain, and fever and started bleeding through the mouth.

Health officials rushed and picked up the suspect after being notified and took him to Igayaza health center III for treatment before he was evacuated to Mubende hospital.

Edward Wamani, the Kakumiro District Disease Surveillance Officer, says they immediately alerted their counterparts in Mubende who rushed and picked blood samples from the suspect.

Wamani says that they have liaised with the in charge of Igayaza health center III to immediately disinfect the school.

Peter Nambale, the UNEB Monitor for Kakumiro district, says that upon arrival at the school, the UNEB scout was immediately evacuated to the health facility before interacting with anyone.

He says despite the suspected case, the exams went on successfully, arguing that there is no cause for alarm since the UNEB scout did not interact with anyone at the school.

Major David Matovu, the Kakumiro Resident District Commissioner-RDC declined to comment on the matter and referred URN to the UNEB monitor. Kakumiro borders Mubende district, the epicenter of the Ebola outbreak.
