UPDF, FARDC Kill Four ADF Rebels in Night Raid

1 Mins read

Four members of the rebel Allied Democratic Forces-ADF were reportedly gunned down on Monday night in an attack by the joint Uganda People’s Defence Forces-UPDF and DRC offices between Nobili and Kamango Towns, Ituri province.

According to security sources, the joint forces raided Kayenjye and Bundihangaro village, which is 6Kms North of Nobili and 5Kms East of Kamango Town. Sources say the operation came hours after the ADF raided the residents of Kayenjye where they killed a Boda boda rider, torched two houses and looted livestock.

The group also abducted six civilians in Bundihangaro who were working in their gardens. Maj. Peter Mugisa, the Spokesperson of Operation Shujja told URN on Tuesday morning that the joint forces encountered the ADF fighters who staged a nasty defence and killed the six abducted Congolese civilians.

He says that the joint forces recovered four SMG riffles including a Rocket Propelled Grenade. According to Maj. Mugisa, the joint forces are still combing the areas, with the possibility of finding more casualties who could have been killed during the fire exchange.

Maj. Mugisa added that the community has been supportive by giving the joint forces leads on where the ADF rebels are hiding.

Last week, UPDF launched a third offensive against ADF rebels who are believed to be operating in Ituri Province and North Kivu in DRC. The joint forces subsequently captured Boga Airfield from the fleeing rebels.

Despite the intensified operations against them, rebels have continued staging surprise attacks against the Congolese army and locals.

A number of Congolese arrived at Busunga border point in Bundibugyo district following the night ADF raids in Bundihangaro and surrounding areas.
