The Electoral Commission has declared Andrew Muwonge, the winner of the Kayunga LCV by-election.

Muwonge who contested on the NRM party ticket was declared the winner by the District Returning Officer, Jennifer Kyobutungi on Friday.

Muwonge garnered 31,830 votes while his closest rival and National Unity Platform-NIP candidate Harriet Nakwede got 31,308 votes.

Majid Nyanzi an independent candidate got 1,287 votes, Jamir Kamoga another independent candidate got 279, Boniface Bandikubi 470, and Anthony Waddimba 158.

However, Nakwede has protested the results and accused the Electoral Commission of inconsistencies. She says that the polls were marred by ballot stuffing, bribery and illegal arrest of her campaign agents, and alternation of results.

The seat fell vacant after the death of Muhammad Ffeffeka Sserubogo, who died a month after occupying the office.
