The Mafia Is Real — Ex VP Bukenya

2 Mins read

The former Vice President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya has said that the mafia group is a big network in the government which participates in corruption and it ensures that it removes any tree however deep the roots are.

Speaking during NBS TV’s Morning Breeze Show on Thursday Morning, Bukenya said that by the time he came out and spoke about the group of mafia networking frustrating service delivery, many people took him for granted.

“The time I raised the issues of mafias, people ignored me but aren’t you hearing people talking about them now? The mafia group is big, it participates in corruption and will remove any tree however deep the roots are,” he said.

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja recently came out and alluded to the existence of a powerful corrupt mafia in government that would dare issue threats to those that threaten their interests.

Without giving details, Nabbanja said the unnamed person had sought to know what it was that she wanted and warned her to go slow.

Many government officials in the past have on several times talked about the mafia network frustrating the system.

According to Bukenya, the mafia group wants to take over the country and it will try to destabilize anybody who is sincere to this country.

“I pray for Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja. I advise her to go slow because these people (mafias) are not ready to be disturbed,” said Bukenya.

Bukenya said that the President in these five years must put a lot of effort in fighting corruption.

“He had a strong government then, the ministers were strong, but today, the ministers fear him. President Museveni is good at generating ideas, but if the people around him don’t take them seriously and implement them, they die,” he said.

Bukenya said that from the President’s security address regarding the national issues, Museveni must have been aloof to what was happening in the country and therefore he should provide the solutions before things get out of hand.

“The NRM I knew was a humble party, a mass party organizing for the whole country. A party that was in discussion and not fighting. We were actually grooming leaders. That is suddenly sliding away into arrogance,” he said while commenting on the intrigue in the party.

Commenting on the Muhoozi project, Bukenya said that anyone in Uganda aged above 21 years is able to stand for the presidency so if Muhoozi wants to stand for the presidency, there is nothing with that.

“There are many children of leaders who have taken up leadership positions. I don’t want Muhoozi as a project, I want him to move step by step until the people of Uganda realize him,” he said.
