Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni and and his DR Congo counterpart, President Felix-Antoine Tshisekedi will meet tomorrow for the launch of Mpondwe bridge, which links the two countries.
Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), constructed the bridge.
Mpondwe Bridge is located in Kasese District, at Mpondwe trading centre, and is a link between the two countries.
It runs over River Lhubiriha at the border.
The Mpondwe bridge project was undertaken to replace the old Bailey Bridge which was deemed unsafe for the heavy vehicular traffic that comprises of heavy cargo trucks due to wear and tear.
The two will later launch construction works of the Joint Infrastructure Projects in DRC earmarked to promote trade.
This development comes a month after the two countries signed an intergovernmental agreement.
The signing took place at State House Entebbe on May 27. President Yoweri Museveni signed on behalf of Uganda, while DRC Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde signed on behalf of his country.
