MANIFESTO WEEK: Army Production Unit Expands With Establishment Of Subsidiaries

Uganda’s Minister of Defence, Adolf Mwesige has revealed that the department expanded the army production unit (National Enterprises Corporation) in the past five years, by setting up subsidiaries, namely NEC Katonga Farm, Luweero Industries, NEC Construction Works and Engineering, NEC Hire Tractor Scheme and NEC UZIMA.

Mwesige was presenting the status report on the implementation of the manifesto for the past five years.

The Ministry since the outbreak of COVID – 19 worked in collaboration with Ministry of Health (MOH) to prevent the spread of COVID-19 within the Country and along its boarders. The following measures were undertaken to address COVID – 19 and its challenges.

Luweero Industries Limited (LIL) carried out a massive manufacturing and supply of sanitizers and masks, and trained health workers on Infection Prevention Control (IPC) measures as well as fumigating to disinfect UPDF barracks occasionally.

According to the Ministry of Defence, they strengthened the UPDF engineering brigade and engineering departments of the Uganda Police Force and Uganda Prisons Services.
