The Special Forces Command (SFC) boss, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba on Tuesday held talks with Turkey’s ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Fikret Kerem.
According to a tweet by Muhoozi, their talks centered on increased security cooperation between the two countries.
“Yesterday, it was my great honour to meet the Turkish Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Fikret Kerem, and their Defence Attache. We discussed increasing security co-operation between Uganda and Turkey. MK,” Gen Muhoozi tweeted.
Last year, the two nations entered into a defense industry cooperation agreement that includes the production and modernization of defense industry products, research and information sharing. The agreement is expected to open the Ugandan market up to Turkish defense companies
Relations between Turkey and Uganda are developing steadily as a result of high level visits between the two countries and the willingness of both countries to work together.
H.E President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited Uganda on May 31 – June 1, 2016. This visit was the first Presidential visit to Uganda from Turkey and served to bolster the ties between the two countries.
H.E. Michael Werikhe Kafabusa, former State Minister for Trade of Uganda, participated the Turkey-Africa Economy and Business Forum, held in İstanbul on 2-3 November 2016.
Turkey’s bilateral trade volume with Uganda was 41 million USD in 2019.
