Deputy Speaker, Jacob Oulanyah has refused to chair the 10th Parliament even if it would be his first time in over a year. Oulanyah decided that the house stand in solidarity with Speaker Kadaga’s mourning family.
Oulanyah was today expected to chair parliament’s plenary sitting in absence of Speaker Rebecca Kadaga who is currently away mourning the death of her niece, Sheila Kadaga who passed away early this week.
Oulanyah shocked many on Wednesday when he declined chairing the August house saying that he would allow Parliament to stand in solidarity with Speaker Kadaga.
“I was asked by fellow citizens what I would say, now that I had the opportunity to chair House today I‘ve done what I always do; extending the spirit of Ubuntu;(I am because you are) In solidarity with @RebeccaKadagaUG we will adjourn to tomorrow May Sheila’s soul RIP #PlenaryUg,” Oulanyah tweeted.
Parliament also observed a moment of silence in honor of Kadaga’s fallen niece before the sitting was adjourned to tomorrow Thursday.
