STARTING MARCH 1: New Company Issuing Driving Permits To Be Based Along Nasser Road

Uganda will have a new company issuing driving permits starting March 1, 2021, according to the Minister of ICT, Judith Nabakooba.

“Beginning March 1, 2021, the process of issuing new driving permits will be done from the Uganda Railways building at Nasser Road in Kampala,” Nabakooba said on Sunday.

Uganda Security Printing Company (USPC) as the new company that will start issuing driving permits in Uganda to replace South African firm, Face Technologies whose contract expired last year.

The Ministry of Works Permanent Secretary, Bageya Waiswa on the 15th of October, 2020 signed a new Contract for the Uganda Driver Licensing System.

The same ceremony saw the Permanent secretary handover part of the Uganda Railways Corporation office premises designated for the issuance of Driving Licenses.  The offices have been remodeled to suit the requirements for the issuance of driving permits which includes sufficient parking space, waiting areas and service desks among others.

During the Negotiations, the Ministry was able to look at the sample card design to be produced by USPC. The card is ISO compliant. It can be used in EAC, SADC and COMESA regions, even at a Global level.
