Health Ministry, US Envoy Discuss Uganda Plan To End HIV By 2030

Uganda’s Health Ministry top officials on Wednesday met with United States Ambassador to Uganda, Natalie E. Brown to discuss continued cooperation between the two nations.

The Health Ministry team was led by Dr Jane Ruth Aceng (Minister) and Permanent Secretary Dr Diana Atwine in the meeting held at the head offices in Wandegeya. Also present was the Director General of Health Services, Dr Henry Mwebesa.

“This morning, @USAmbUganda, H E Natalie Brown and team paid a courtesy call to my team and I. We discussed the support of the US Government to various health programs, success registered and way forward. Ambassador, Welcome to Uganda and we look forward to working together,” Aceng tweeted on Wednesday.

In a tweet by the US Embassy, $43m has been added to Uganda’s response to the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

The embassy also revealed that the ambassador and Aceng discussed Uganda’s plan to end HIV by 2030.

A big chunk of US aid to Uganda’s health system, goes to providing anti-retroviral treatment for more than 990,000 HIV-positive Ugandans.
