FDC, ANT Hand In Signatures To Support Nomination Of Their Candidates

1 Mins read

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has submitted signatures to enable the nomination of its presidential flag bearer in the 2021 polls to the Electoral Commission.

Patrick Amuriat Oboi will be the official candidate of FDC in the 2021 presidential race

While handing in the signatures, the party’s acting electoral commission boss, Boniface Bamwenda said that they have collected more than the required signatures to guarantee that their candidate is successfully nominated without disclosing the total number of signatures collected.

Before the delivery of the signatures, Bamwenda told reporters that they had ensured that they verify and validate their signatures before delivering them to avoid giving EC any chance of turning their candidate away.

The FDC’s National Field campaign coordinator who doubles as Rukungiri Municipality MP, Roland Kaginda Mugume called upon other opposition political parties to work together for a common cause rather than fighting one another.

“We need to work together so that we don’t leave a loophole for our enemy to beat us in terms of support on the ground,” he said

Meanwhile the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) also submitted its signatures to the electoral commission on Wednesday.

The ANT electoral commission chief, Dan Mugarura told the media that the party has submitted 15,000 signatures before the commission.

He said they would announce date for nomination of their presidential candidate Gen Mugisha Muntu after verification of their signatures

The EC head of verifying signatures, Liz Kobugabe, said the commission will not clear voters who have seconded more than two candidates, hence it is required that the party hands more than the required signatures.

Presidential aspirants who have already submitted signatures for verification so far include; Henry Tumukunde, Fred Mwesigye, Mabirizi Joseph, Kabuleta Kiiza Joseph, Yamureebire Jotham, Makmot Moses, Okoth Geoffrey, National Unity Platform’s Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert, president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and many more.
