The National Unity Platform (NUP) has nominated the Kampala Woman Member of Parliament (MP), Nabilah Naggayi Sempala to hold the Kampala Lord Mayor ticket.
She was competing against a one Cudrah Ssali who scored 87 out of the available 200 points while Nabilah scored 166 points.
According to the party’s Electoral head Mercy Walukamba, Sempala’s response was impressive to the panel.
“Today, the Executive Board of the National Unity Platform sat and passed candidates for the position of Member of Parliament for various constituencies in the Central Region. The Board also approved Hon. Nabilah Naggayi Sempala as candidate for Lord Mayor of Kampala,” reads the post on NUP’s Facebook Page.
“I am humbled and honoured to take up the responsibility. I will serve to the best of my ability,” Nabilah responded to the statement.
The City Mayoral race in NUP suffered a setback following the withdrawal of Kawempe North MP Hon Latif Ssebaggala citing the need to promote cohesion within the opposition.
Speaking shortly after being handed the NUP ticket Sempala said that (NUP) has wiped all her tears after 15 years of suffering in marriage with the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
Nabilah’s ‘marriage’ with the FDC ended bitterly in July this year when they denied her the FDC ticket to run as Lord Mayor shortly before handing the card to incumbent Erias Lukwago.
The FDC Electoral Commission chairperson Toremuka Bamwenda told NBS in July that Nabilah was an ‘imposter’ who did not pick her forms from their offices.
Nabilah said that she had decided to go independent after that experience until NUP came to her rescue.
“After 15 years of being married to FDC, with all our children, they treated me like trash, they threw me out on the streets. Now a youthful man (NUP) has come to my rescue, wiped away all my tears. I now feel even more appreciated and beautiful,” she said.
Nabilah said that her candidature should energise all women that are not being appreciated in their marriages/relationships.
