President Yoweri Museveni has said Biometric Voter Verification technology will be used in 2021 general election to prevent rigging.

Speaking at the party headquarters in Kyadondo, Kampala on Monday, Museveni said whereas the process of lining up behind candidates was able to solve the problem that has been on since 1961, some people took advantage to cause chaos.

He also flagged off over 2000 motorcycles meant for the NRM leaders at subcounty level.

“There was violence in a constituency called Bukono where 12 people were beaten and cut with pangas. I got information that police had not done much work. I told IGP that if police didn’t do the work, I will do it for them by arresting them first and then bring the rest myself. I have the capacity to do it,” Museveni said.

He wondered how some of the suspects in the matter had been arrested and released on police bond, noting that it is appalling.

“There will be no police bond for anybody who has attacked Ugandans. You alter results we arrest you in forgery. The stupid policeman who doesn’t know how to use gun will go to jail for man slaughter. The ones threatening people will also go to jail. The one who beat people will also go to jail.”

“All those who have made a fool of themselves will go to jail. If we find that you changed results, you will be charged with forgery. This game is finished,” Museveni said.

He urged all party members who are aggrieved to calm down and wait for the panel of elders in every region to be unveiled and here they will lodge complaints about the concluded party primaries

For general elections, Museveni said a more transparent method is needed to guard against vote rigging.

“We must have digital reconvention of voters using the biometric. This was supposed to be in the previous elections but the corrupt fellows who were in the Electoral Commission who were recently sacked bought fake biometric machines which don’t work,” he said.

According to the spokesperson Electoral Commission, Paul Bukenya the commission is planning to upgrade the biometric machines ahead of the polls.
