President Museveni has summoned NRM leaders from Ssembabule and Kazo districts over the issues regarding the recently concluded party primaries.
A section of NRM Legislators also has asked the Central Executive Committee and the party’s Electoral Commission to urgently hold a crisis meeting and find a lasting solution to the violence and chaos that characterised the primaries.
The legislators warned that unless the party intervenes, the primaries for district chairpersons, city mayors and municipality mayors scheduled for September 11 will be more chaotic than never.
The meeting that president Museveni summoned comes days after the just concluded NRM party primaries where, the party’s Electoral Commission cancelled Mawogola West and North polls due to pre-election violence.
For Kazo district, the Woman MP elections were never announced after a clash of egos was witnessed at the voting tally centre.
According to a letter signed by the district Resident Commissioner, Nickson Kabuye, among the invited guests is Sembabule district Chairman, NRM district Chairperson, all members of parliament, all spirants in the just concluded primaries, all sub county chairpersons and all NRM sub county chairpersons.
Kabuye notes that these leaders will meet the president on Thursday without giving details of what the meeting is all about.
However, all leaders are required to go to Mulago National referral Hospital for COVID-19 tests before the meeting.
Across the country, the primaries were rocked by chaotic and violent scenes with candidates or their supporters involved in bloody clashes.
The ugly scenes, the MPs said, are a shame to the ruling party hence they called upon the leadership to convene a crisis meeting and find a lasting solution to this violence and election malpractice before the next polls.
Some of the legislators also disclosed that in some areas, district administrative secretaries of the party manipulated results.
