Besigye Expected To Pick Nomination Forms Tomorrow

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has started picking and receiving nominations for the party’s presidential flag bearer, the party’s deputy spokesperson has said.

While addressing the media at the party headquarters in Kampala, Kikonyogo said all party members interested in becoming presidential flag bearers are expected to pick expression and nomination forms on August 18th and 19th.

He added that these people are  expected to return the nomination forms  by the 26th of this month, ahead of formal nominations.

However, there are strong indications in Najjanankumbi that Dr Kizza Besigye will be one of those seeking nomination.

According to the officials, Dr. Besigye who is expected at the party headquarters on Wednesday, will give a key note speech after picking the nomination forms.

At the party headquarters yesterday, Besigye posters had been placed all over the place describing him as president.

However, Kikonyogo said the party is still uncertain on whether Besigye will be among the candidates.

“Dr. Besigye can pick the forms if he wants. He is eligible to be a candidate whether he wants or not, we are going to know within the next 48 hours,” Kikonyogo said.

Addressing the media last week, Ibrahim Semujju said many party members still want Besigye to be the party’s flag bearer but that is his decision to make.

Ssemujju also referred to the party president’s remarks on fronting Besigye as the flag bearer for president in 2021, as a wish, and not in the constitution of the party.

While speaking to the party members in Gulu district,Patrick Oboi Amuriat was quoted saying that the FDC’s National Executive Committee had agreed that if Besigye expresses interest to seek the party flag, there will be no competition.
