Sarah Kanyike Appointed State Minister for Elderly

President Museveni has appointed former KCCA Deputy Lord Mayor Sarah Kanyike as a state minister for the elderly and people with disabilities in the Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development.

The position had been vacant for a while and was formerly held by Adrian Tibaleka.

Kanyike, who had been serving as Kampala deputy lord mayor, was in June announced as a nominee for a position of director of gender, community services and production at KCCA.

But in a July 23 statement, Paul Wabwire, on behalf of clerk to parliament, notified the parliament Appointments Committee that she would be meeting them for scrutiny.

“… the Appointments Committee is scheduled for Tuesday 28th July, 2020 at 10am in the Conference Hall… to interact with Sarah Kanyike, the presidential nominee — minister of state for disability and elderly.”

Following Kanyike’s nomination last month, She was given an ultimatum by Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago to turn down Museveni’s job.

Lukwago argued that Kanyike’s previous position was far more superior than one which Museveni had initially appointed her to.

However, on June 18, Kanyike resigned her position a City Hall and after learning that Kanyike had scored a job from the president, the Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago replaced her with Doreen Nyanjura.
