“If You Stand Against Besigye in FDC, You Become an Enemy,” Nabila

2 Mins read

The embattled woman MP,Kampala Central, Nabilah Naggayi Sempala has said that standing up to challenge Dr. Kizza Besigye in Forum for Democratic change(FDC) as a presidential flag bearer has made some people to be seen as enemies of the party by the officials.

In April 2019, Sempala declared her support for Kyadondo East member of parliament Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine who had attacked Besigye for failing to secure change in the country.

Nabilah said the opposition political terrain had already swung in favor of Bobi and it was never meant to be constantly dominated by Besigye. The statement she made seemed to have landed her into problem of going against the party position among others.

But, in an interview over the weekend , Naggayi said internal democracy in FDC is harder than what is seen externally on the surface.

“We have seen institutional reforms but most parties including FDC, there have been challenges ,the voters’ registers, primaries and intrigue where individuals are deemed to be founding members and owner defector of the party,” she explained.

“Those of us who have tagged our membership to the constitution have become victims. What I can say is that it is very absurd, there is no any member of any party who would wish to leave a party after 15 years.I have been a building block of FDC,”she said.

Few days ago, in what is seen as a shocking disclosure, leader of opposition in Parliament Aol Betty Ochan said FDC will not field Besigye as it’s presidential flag bearer in the upcoming election but Nabilah said this can not be possible.

“I don’t think FDC has ever been interested or has groomed any one to step into the shoes of Dr. Kizza Besigye as flag bearer. Actually all possible aspirants have been weeded out of the party,”she claimed.

She said It will be very hard for the party to  find a suitable candidate in the next two months other than Besigye.

“Anyone who dares to be become a flag bearer must be eliminated. Actually the current president Patrick Amuriat, his rise to the seat of FDC as party president was because of one statement “elect me as FDC president I will not stand against Dr. Kizza Besigye,it was a one statement manifeso,”she said.

She said that the only option at the moment is to leave the party because she doesn’t  have much time to tough it out in FDC.

” I have already decided to stand for the Lord mayorship of Kampala the only difference is I first consulted the people of Kampala and I went back to the party to pick the uniform, my flag ,so if the flag is not possible. We will move as people of Kampala as women of Kampala, as voters of Kampala,”she said.

Last week, FDC officials labeled Nabilah as an imposter and dishonest at the same time chasing her away from the party offices when she had gone to tender in her nomination papers for Lord Mayorship race.

Officials also accused the legislator of late coming and forgery among other things.
