Everything You Need to Know About Cask Lounge

2 Mins read

During the total lockdown a new hangout took social media by storm. The pictures of the place seemed to be out of this world; the architecture and the furniture in general did not seem like any of the hangouts we have in town but it turns out that the place is real and it is in Kampala.

Cask lounge is a new bar and restaurant located on plot 35 John Babiha avenue/ Acacia avenue. It gets its name from the casks that are used in the architecture of the place. Casks are barrels from which wine is left to ferment so the designs in the entire place use full or half casks making it the Cask Lounge. It is also the only bar in Uganda that partners with French Cognac; Hennessy.

Special features

Each of the tables of the restaurant have a fountains with flowers. It gives the whole area the whole aspect of green and life as customers get to enjoy their food.

What stands out at Cask lounge is probably it’s sculptures. The sculptures were made a Ugandan called @kyejjusashahenrictyra on Instagram. There are sculptures of lions and gorilla, dogs, an African woman, a Slay queen and one of the oldest pianos in the world. All these sculptures give cask lounge an authentic African yet modern feel.

It has a smoke area in the sky with a bon fire in the middle. As opposed to people fighting to find a fire man for their pots, they can easily pick their fire themselves from the bon fire.

The bar area has a fountain with a non- suspended bar. The bar literally stands in space with no support from the ground.

Contrary to many bars where the DJ plays at the front or in a corner somewhere, the DJ booth at Cask lounge is in the middle of the entire lounge so the DJ can be spotted from any direction.

It also has 58 lights for the night life. The lights were picked to give the bar the modern night life feel when they automatically walk in.

For people who love mirror selfies, the toilets at Cask lounge will probably be your favorite place. The mirrors are illuminated and they’re touch sensitive, in case someone wants light as they wash their hands, they can simply touch the mirror for light. The customers also have 58 lights in the bathroom and they can change them as they please.

It also has ample parking space to cater for over 40 cars with security personnel on ground.

The Impact of COVID-19

Unfortunately for Cask lounge, it opened at a time when government had closed bars in order to curb the spread of COVID-19. However, they’re open to serve people from their restaurant menu everyday from 9:30am while following the Ministry of Health SOPs.

The restaurant serves both continental and traditional foods. The foods are prepared by a Ugandan chef who ensures that customers taste buds are left wanting for more. The entire lounge and restaurant allow payment by VISA card, Momo pay, Airtel money and cash.

Although Cask lounge is open at the moment, when the lockdown is removed and bars re-open, the management hopes to hold a 3 day festival as a grand entry into the scene for Kampala’s day and night life.

For now you can check out the place and enjoy the day life until the Night life in Kampala resumes.
