He made the remarks yesterday at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi District during the closing and passing out ceremony of 47 staff of the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) and 20 Senior Managers from the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), including Commissioner General, Ms. Doris Akol, who all completed a 2-week Transforming Leadership Course at the Institute.

The course covered a wide scope of topics that included the making of committed officers, political education, corruption and its impact, skills at arms and drills.

The Deputy IGP delivered a lecture of opportunity that covered such topics like the role of ideology, national security and integrity, among others, also presented prizes to the best course participants.

Stella Nyapendi scooped the prize for being the most active and Dickson Katashumba won a prize for the best marksmanship as Bernard Ochaya of Anti-Corruption Unit emerged the most active participant, Olga Ajiri for the best attitude and Capt. Miriam Apio Okello was the best markswoman.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Major General Sabiiti Muzei said “I thank the National Leadership Institute for doing a good job. I commend the Commissioner General of URA and the Head of the Anti- Corruption Unit Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema for their part in organizing the training of the officers. The important factors are ideology, discipline and physical fitness. It is dangerous to promote negative ideology. If you promote a non-sectarian ideology you get unity.”

He reminded the participants that they were contributing to the national economy. He asked them to support their country.

He called on them to work hard and not to steal what belongs to wananchi. He told them that integrity is the act of doing what is ethical.

He called on them not to let someone else take the blame for something they have done themselves. He reminded them to always treat others the same way they would want to be treated.

The Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema saluted Major Gen. Muzei for accepting to be the guest of honour. She disclosed that the ACU has got the best Police officers attached to it and thanked the Police administration for their role in providing the best officers.

She thanked the Commander of NALI Brig. David Kasura for organizing the training. She said “The Anti-Corruption Unit is able to work in national interest.

We are committed in serving our motherland Uganda better. We look forward to contributing towards an increased national growth rate. The fight against corruption needs collective efforts.

The Commissioner General of Uganda Revenue Authority Doris Akol thanked Brig. Kasura for facilitating the 2 weeks training exercise.

She said “URA is central to the growth of Uganda. We are working with a target to increase the revenue collection in 2020 to Ush 20 trillion. We shall continue sending out more staff for training at NALI. Our target is to also improve on our leadership skills.”

The Commandant of NALI Brig. David Kasura said that they are working towards making committed patriotic officers. He said “All the participants have been transformed. They understand and love their country. I commend Lt. Col. Nakalema for her role in the training.” He urged them not to stop studying but to continue with learning.
