Opposition Should Get Means Of Defeating Museveni — Mao

1 Mins read

The Democratic Party (DP) president has urged the opposition to wake up and get different methods to break up Museveni’s system if they are to take up the leadership of this country.

While addressing the media in Kampala on Tuesday, Mao said there is no point for opposition to attack each other especially on social media.

“I call upon all the other political actors stop attacking each other, I am not a president of Uganda, attacking Mao doesn’t take you to state house. I am also sweating in the field. I am looking for the ball and the man with the ball is well known so I call for a cease fire,” he said.

Mao said Ugandans have been struggling for so long and lessons should be learnt from this that the struggle to liberate the country is for all Ugandans.

” No leader or group should try to think that Ugandan people’s struggle is his struggle or the struggle of his group. As long as we have that mentality. We will always have a problem,” he said.

Mao also disagreed with the FDC proposal to have a mediator guide all the opposition forces on how to get on a joint candidate against Museveni in 2021.

He said that in 2016 elections under the democratic alliance (TDA), they had mediator including Kofi Annan, one of the most world’s international Statesmen but still failed to agree on who should be the flag bearer.

Mao also condemned the Police brutality that was unleashed against People Power group and their leader.

Mao said police is looking at the public order management act as a law to prohibit the public gathering yet it is well stipulated.

He noted that this is the season for the People Power group to reflect on how to beat the system with different tactics in which fairness should be exhibited in all sides.

“On behalf of Democratic Party, we condemned in the strongest terms the illegal, unwarranted and brutal manner in which the police broke up what was earlier cleared, “he said.
