The golden band singer Ronald Mayinja who is also affiliated to the People Power pressure group has warned the public against throwing bottles at some singers who support the ruling party, NRM.
In an interview with Ug Mirror, Mayinja expressed his displeasure to the opposition supporters who pelt bottles at the people they disagree with politically.
His comments came shortly after a number of artists who supports NRM have been pelted with bottles during their stage performances.
Some of the artists include Big Eye, Catherine Kusasira, Full Figure among others.
Mayinja said politics at all levels must reflect maturity and people should learn to accommodate others’ views in a peaceful environment.
“The truth is that everybody has his or her own views, so we should not abuse one another, we should not fight or discriminate them, even me have very many who don’t agree with me and they never chased me away from the stage,” he said.
He advised the members of the public to respect each other and promote unity as one way of creating sanity in the country.
“This country is full of all kinds of creatures like snakes, wild animals even though wild animals eat people, we decided to create for them game parks so that we can live peacefully, so this country is ours and let’s promote peace and unity,” he said.
He said the act of some opposition members abusing and throwing empty bottles at musicians who doesn’t support their political ideologies is wrong and can taint the image of Uganda as a country.
“The opposition and NRM should respect one another, peace for all, all for peace so that tolerance and fairness is the only way to show maturity for politics and to all Ugandans. that is my thinking.” he said.
He also expressed his disappointments at the Electoral Commission for organising elections in a non-existent constituency as the country heads for 2021 general elections.
“It was unfair, wasting people’s time because the commission endorsed and a lot of resources were used during those elections which was not right. A lot of tax payer’s money was spent,” he said.
He said Electoral Commission should be penalised for not guiding the country on the right path.
