People Power Activists Begin Voter Update Campaign Ahead of Electoral Commission Deadline

People power Movement has over the weekend launched a door to door campaign intended to encourage Ugandans to utilize the remaining ten days set by the Electoral Commission (EC) to massively mobilize their supporters countrywide to participate in the ongoing General Update of the National Voters’ register.

As part of the campaign, the people power activists have handed out public mobilisation tools through their agents around the country.

Speaking to the media, Joel Ssenyonyi, the spokesperson of the People Power Movement said the campaign is aimed at reminding Ugandans about a number of things which include the ongoing update of the voter register.

“So we are encouraging Ugandans especially those that have never been voting ,those who are no on the voter register ,please go and register even when you don’t have the national ID ,We would also like to remind those who would like to change the voting location,you go and do that,” he said.

He also called upon the rest of the public to go and cross check to be certain about their details.

“We call on Ugandans to embrace this exercise ,be part of it but we also keep on reminding the electoral commission please be on track, a couple of parishes we were told that electoral officers are not on those places so electoral commission we call upon you to make sure you do what you are supposed to do,” he said.

He also added: “We also remind you not defranchise 1.3 million Ugandans who are going to clock 18 from December12th the process would have ended.”

Ramadhan Lubega people power member said “people power team in Uganda we request the government to add us small time unil 2021 to enable Ugandnas partcipae amicably in this exercise.”

James Mubiru, a member of people Power said they have been creating awareness towards their people.

“So that we send them back to the community to alert more people about the voter register that is going on ,it is noted that many people are just dormant and not paying attention to the ongoing process,” he said.
